Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #34

Stamps: Cause for Celebration
Paper: River Rock, Ginger Blossom DSP, Ruby Red, Cameo Coral, White
Ink: Ruby Red, Cameo Coral, Summer Sun
Accessories: Nestabilities, River Rock Stitched Ribbon, Dimensionals

I had already stamped the sentiment I wanted to use inside before I looked back at the sketch and realized it should've been on the front...but I'd look like a bit of a tool if I put it on both, so there's no sentiment on the front. =)

Head over to the sweetest thing & try it out for yourself.

Last night we took Shauna out to our local fave, Red Ox Inn, for her birthday supper. Again....yummeroo! If you're in the area, give it a try because it's a delicious event every time - and it's an independent restaurant, so I always figure no matter what I try, I'm sure they do it will or they wouldn't be around.

A Little Mojo for My Iris

I LOVE the sketches that Julee comes up with and this one was no exception. Plus, it's the first sketch of the month, which makes it contest time! Get your entries in for a chance to win a set of Verve Stamps of your choice (up to $24 value).
This is the sketch for
Mojo 98...

Stamps: StampTV Elegant Flowers (Gina K)
Paper: Lovely Lilac, Wild Wasabi, Very Vanilla, Spring Silhouettes DSP
Ink: Sahara Sand, Lovely Lilac, Old Olive
Accessories: Wild Wasabi Striped Grosgrain, Dimensionals, Nestabilities, Sakura Gel Pen, Chalks, Versamark
Techniques: Poppin' Pastels

On my card, I'm using the Gina K Elegant Flowers. One day soon, I will have some Verve stamps to play along....of that I'm sure. I adore their sentiments! Until then, I'll keep playing with the coloring on these beauties =)

I just realized that I didn't let everyone know about the great little restaurant we found in Wetaskiwin. I don't know about you, but I love when we find a hidden gem, which is exactly what we thought of Pipestone Food Company when we went for Forkfest. Plus, the meal happened to feature all that is right with the world (in my opinion). Crab cakes & caesar salad, tenderloin medallions and a choice of creme brulee or pecan flan. Yep - that's a little slice of heaven for me! If you're in the Edmonton area, give 'em a try!

I received the best package yesterday - all of my stamped images from my friend Susie! (She's got blog candy going on until the 31st for her followers...check it out and consider becoming one) Who knew that that UK to Canada would only take a week and a day?! Well now I do...so you know I'll be coloring like happy little five year old tonight!

Tasty Kelowna

We enjoyed a pretty smooth flight into Kelowna yesterday, which was good since MrP was more than a little anxious about flying again since it's been a few months since he'd flown to Vegas and some coworkers had him a little freaked with their stories of turbulance.

But we made it and had an appetite by the time we got here, so we checked into our hotel room and headed out to find
Memphis Blues BBQ. I had a small pulled pork and MrP asked which would be recommended, so he had the sliced brisket. While mine was really good, his was fantastic. I think we have to go back so I can have the brisket. LOL! I also think we need to add a trip to the south for some real BBQ one day.

After lunch, we felt like walking, so we headed down to the beach and checked out the scenenery. Of course, MrP was then drawn to the kids water park. That guy's got the mentality of a seven year old when it comes to fun. I had a little nap when we got back to the hotel, which was a rarity for me, but I guess running full speed for the last three weeks is finally catching up with me. =)

We headed to Sal's Prime Steakhouse for supper and sat in the second round booth from the back. They had a nightly $35 three course menu, which I had to try since cajun halibut was one of the entrees. MrP had a 6oz Kobe steak. All tasty - especially the maple creme brulee (and I don't like maple, typically) If you're in Kelowna, give these two places a try. (I wish I'd taken pics of our meals, but you still wouldn't have been able to get the tasty factor) =)

I'm enjoying being on vacation, but I'm also looking forward to getting crafty at home when we're back since I'm missing out on the Dare To Get Dirty Challenges for the Dirty Dozen Fan Club at SCS. I guess I'll have 24 challenges when I get home to start the ol' mojo. In the meantime, here's a peek at one of the cards I did for Sharon's DTGD challenge last year...

Stamps: Stitched Exotics, Labelicious

Ink: Groovy Guava, Sahara Sand

Have a great day! I know I will (unless it rains on my cream/brown dress, rendering it pretty much see through....please don't rain!!)

Pluot?

Ever had a pluot? Raise your hand...
Wow - way more people than I thought. Apparently I'm a loser for never trying this fruit.

Wait! Yes, it's a fruit. Get your hand down. I said pluot, not poot. HAHA
You bunch of pooters... (if you don't know what a poot is, you're much classier than our house, where we refer to a toot that smells like....well you get the idea, I'm sure.)

Okay - so I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's never tried a pluot. In fact, I'd never even heard of them until I saw them at my local grocery store. Of course, being a sucker for "weird" fruit, I picked up the pack before going back to work and googling them. Mine apparently are Dapple Dandy's according to my all-knowing friends at Wikipedia.
Speaking of Wiki, this photo was shamelessly borrowed from their website. I hope nobody minds! (Thanks, dudes!)

They're a cross between a plum and an apricot and they're DELICIOUSLY sweet and tasty! Give them a try!

Don't forget to scroll down for my earlier card post!

Culina (Mill Creek)

Last night, the Ladies of Leisure had a late supper at Culina at the Mill Creek location. We shared a Persian Platter of flat bread, yogurt cheese, hummus and artichoke hearts. Tasty! A bunch of us tried the Alberta Beef, which featured a blue cheese & chocolate sauce. Interesting since I can't say I would've ever thought to pair the three....but good none the less. A glass of Peter Lehmann's Futures Shiraz was a nice send off for the meal.

Congrats to MsL for her completion of the Underwear Affair in the hot & poplar fuzz filled weather!

Today, yoga & swimming, then a visit with Mom & some cards/relaxation, I hope!
Hope you have a great one (especially with the men & fathers in your life!)

River House Grill

If you're ever in St. Albert, give this place a go! We went there for supper tonight in our attempt to try a new place each month and what a success.

While my fire roasted red pear, feta, pecan, lettuce & 2 balsamics salad was delish, next time I'll definitely be giving the Zesty Caesar salad a go! MrP's was yummeroo. The tenderloin had blue cheese on top, putting the steak over the top for me, but they do put on a great rub while cooking the steak and while tasty, it contains celery seeds. This was MrP's only complaint. His ribeye was flavorful and had a great reduction. I wish I'd taken my camera because the presentation was beautiful.

To finish, the fruit-ladden creme brulee was really good, but for me....the macaroon was the most amazing part. I think I'll call & see if I can just buy macaroons there. Mmmm...coconutty goodness galore. MrP enjoyed a berry & rhubarb crisp, saying that it was great, but as usual, lacking in ice cream for his preferences (most places don't do the generous ice cream servings like we do at home...and as a result, force us to hit the gym). Anyways, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere & service were very nice. Give it a try =)
